Homemade Honey Sugar Scrub

I don't know about you, but whenever I see DIY beauty ideas in magazines I am never grabbed to try it. "Make your own lip balm!" Ugh, no thanks, this Burt's Bees is doing me just fine. But the one thing Whole Living magazine does is make me want to do exactly that. Well not lip balm, but exfoliants. My fave fave fave!

 The magazine has pretty layouts.

I'll bet you actually have all this stuff on hand.
The recipe calls for 1 cup sugar, 1/4 cup olive oil,
1 teaspoon honey and 2 teaspoons lemon zest.

Mix it up.
It certainly smells like I made it and it didn't come from a store, but just go with it.

And there you have it! Homemade sugar scrub.
Can't wait to scrub down tomorrow morning.

BHLDN Wishlist

This dotted veil is so sweet and would look great placed in front of the face as well.
I have yet to sort out the veil debate, but this is strong contender.

These lace gloves made the cut because when else
will I be able to wear something like this?
Also bonus points for them looking so vintage but being new.
Vintage gloves are so tiny and I can never cram my hands in there.

And lastly, this dress. SWOON. I have no idea the purpose of this dress,
since I clearly would not pick it over my gown. It doesn't look "bride".
Maybe I can have a bridesmaid wear it?

(And for those living under a blog rock, BHLDN is the new bridal shop from Anthropologie/Urban.)

my valentine's.

The morning began with clouds in my coffee cup! How lucky am I?

Dinner was our traditional fondue. Same recipe all these years. This is our 5th Valentine's Day together and the first two years we did the reservation-at-a-cool-restaurant thing and experienced bad service and even worse prices. So we have happily been spending the last 3 at home.

Jon picked up these little chocolate cakes (and some flowers!) from Whole Foods.
Gotta have dessert to wash down all that cheese and bread.

"work in progress"

Every time I sit and watch design show, Dear Genevieve I get really sad that she isn't in my house helping out. And my disgust usually goes straight to the room we are normally in-the living room. Even though I still have yet to reupholster our wing back chair and ditch our cheapie bookcase, we made a big step towards something I am much happier with. We swapped our old TV stand for a glossy black bamboo dresser.

To be fair, we used to have a much smaller TV up there.

Feels much more grown up.

P.S. I have applied to be on Dear Genevieve ...without a response.
If anyone knows someone that works on the show, let me know, please!

Love Rules

So says the Valentine we got yesterday from our wedding photographer, Kate Harrison. You of course remember her from the post where she sent gorgeous flowers to my work, yes? Well she did it again. And as Jon says "You eat that shit up". Yes, yes I do! Take a peek at the cutest Valentine ever.

Happy early Valentine's Day!

 {taken Superbowl Sunday. Superbowl treats were in that backpack there}

Happy Friday! I hope you are getting awesome bike weather in your neck of the woods, like we are.

Valentine's Day Decor

I love decorating for Valentine's Day, it's just such a bummer it isn't a full month sort of thing, with the holiday falling in the middle of the month. Take a look at what I did this year and if you want, see what I did last year.

I'm a sucker for vintage paper decorations.

I got a big bag of cheap pink candies at the dollar store to
use as filler for a little candle scape.

Cindy's Baby Shower

On Saturday I threw a lil baby shower for my sister in law. I am so excited to have a baby niece on the way! True story: we threw Cindy a shower for her first baby one month before her due date. Well, the morning of the shower she went into labor! And delivered like a half hour later. Not really, but it seemed like it. And my brother was at a bachelor party in Vegas. And my mom and I were stuck at my mom's with all the shower guests! You can imagine how I felt this Saturday morning-prepared for anything. But baby is still cooking and she was able to attend her own shower. Hooray.

I cut those letters out of a cereal box, glued and glittered. ta-da!

Little kid pictures of the guest of honor.

I throw parties with cupcakes.

Weekend Scenes

It is sad sitting down to do a weekend scenes post when you are suddenly very sick and coughing like crazy. Thank goodness for this kitty in my lap. Cats that sit in your lap are the best. It's like they know when you need a pal. Growing up we always had 2-3 cats and none of them were lap cats! Or a couple of them just preferred my brother and dad. I would stick em on my back, in bassinets, they would always hop away. Pete=the cat I always wanted. OK, side tracked a bit. Here's the weekend:

Enjoying my cute new watch, care of RumbaTime. Now I want more colors!

Creating new bathroom vignettes. Behold the best candle ever.
I have a feeling a lot of you have already made this discovery.
If not, include it in your future purchases.

Bloody mary + darts.
I find I get bored at bars unless there is some sort of activity {besides drinking}.

Wearing my mom's wedding dress! She made this herself in 1972, so I naturally
had to use the 70's filter on Flickr to edit it. Crazy enough, I don't remember ever
seeing it or trying it on all these years. It fit really well. How sweet and simple is it?
The plan is to alter it above the knee for my rehearsal.
This is all with her blessing, I think the words were
"Do whatever you want! It is just going to end up thrown away one day".
It also comes complete with a champagne stain, which I love.
