Halloween

After a tough mom + baby day I wasn't really too excited for a night of Halloween festivities but I am glad I bucked up because it was Jonas' first Halloween, after all. Here are some snaps from the night.

My cousin and his family have a great neighborhood for trick or treating, it even gets blocked off with cones so cars can't drive through. All night long trick or treaters were constantly flowing up to the door while we enjoyed chili and cornbread inside since we are a year off from bringing Jonas door to door.

I love a good classic Jack-o-lantern.

Pumpkin Patch

This weekend I had my first outing with Jon and Jonas, not counting the pediatrician appointment. We went to the Pumpkin Patch. Obviously more for me than Jonas, but I hope to make this a little tradition.

Had to dress our little guy in orange for the occasion.

Our new role as mama and daddy. I remember we came here once when we were boyfriend and girlfriend maybe 4 or 5 years ago. And now we are back with our offspring. Crazy!

Small fry. 

Going out with a newborn sure gets you a lot of attention. Other than the several warm smiles from other mothers, people love coming right up to you to ask how old he is and what not. I think between the pumpkin patch, Peets and Chipotle (we were on a roll!) we had little conversations with 6 different people. And it definitely has a different tone than the comments while pregnant. ;)

First Halloween

I am pretty excited baby Jonas is going to arrive right before a slew of holidays. I feel lucky to get to take him to a pumpkin patch and celebrate Halloween as it is one of my favorite holidays! But since he is going to be so small and it's going to be such a major adjustment period I wasn't planning on dressing him up. That was until yesterday...

What's this? A homemade knit present for our little bean?

Let's take a closer look at this little outfit. 

A green bean costume! How perfect!! I was over the moon when Jon brought home this present yesterday from a sweet family friend. I could not have thought of a better costume for our little boy.

Happy Halloween!

This year wasn't as planned out as years past. My costume idea didn't really come full circle and we didn't really have any raging parties to go to. But at the last minute we decided to have people over. Just some close friends + costumes + leftover booze from the wedding + Taboo. And it was awesome!

Just a couple of 80's ladies. I added blood at the last minute. (Don't know why!)

I loved my dress. Fully beaded. 

I spy a magician, referee, guy riding an ostrich, greaser and Jesus!

Aside from our dance off to Monster Mash, having a hula hoop 

contest in the backyard was one of the best parts of the night.

And Halloween still isn't over yet! I think I'm going to dress up 

as a hippie to answer the door for trick or treaters.

We got together with our friends to drink some beers and carve our pumpkins! 

 What do you think? I loved using the power tool to carve instead of a knife.

Fall at home

We needed to make a trip to West Elm to get an area rug and I could not resist their Halloween stuff that was on sale. I brought home some new guys.

Halloween around the house

This is probably my favorite holiday to decorate for. I also love Valentine's Day but its so awkward since the 14th is the middle of the month and you don't wanna put everything up for two weeks or do you leave it up all month? I kind of have a rule about not decorating for a holiday in a month that you're not in yet. Does that make sense? In other words, we are not putting Christmas stuff up the day after Thanksgiving. Nope. Anyways, with Halloween being at the very end of October, it's just sort of perfect.

Cheap and Easy.

The only brown bottles I saved from the wedding. They are holding sticks from the backyard that dangle Mr. Cat, Skeleton and Moon Man. Also, a new gray velvet pump sits nearby. 

I'm really a fan of the classic black and orange combination and anything with a black cat I will usually go for. 

This is my little owl yard. I grabbed a bunch of black and orange books and nestled them in with my owl collection and some bottle brush trees I dyed years ago.

Georgia on my mind

I have decided on a Halloween costume! You are looking at the new Charlene from Designing Women. As much as I would love to be a Sugarbaker, I have to go with the blond. Basically, I found this awesome beaded dress at the thrift store and had to have it. It was $39.95 which is pretty steep for a costume but I couldn't let it go. Well, it was meant to be because that bad boy happened to be 75% off! Score!

Something tells me I need to practice doing my hair before the big night. I'm excited to load up on the blue eyeshadow and big gold earrings.

Unrelated, but in the bottom picture, Mary Jo's dress looks a lot like one of J.Crew's bridesmaids dresses.

While the cat*'s away...

Tonight

he will be

this girl will be home with nobody to talk to

except maybe this guy.

But I plan to

eat whatever I want,

and try to forget that in 23 days,

I'll be wearing one** of these!

I'll count down the days until Jon comes back, but hopefully

this guy keeps me company.

Not the most perfect weekend, but I'm working with what I got!

The Silent Treatment

Happy Halloween! This year Jon and I took the more classic costume route and not wanting to spend loads of cash on those (horrible) pre-made costumes we transformed ourselves into mimes. Take a look!

 Instead of wearing a traditional beret, I wore a headband with a black rosette and black feathers.

Jon spray painted black stripes on an under shirt. I had no idea you could spray paint clothing!
