a birthday brunch in the city

This weekend we celebrated one of my oldest and best friend's birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise, set up by her fiance but the stinker saw us walking up to the restaurant from her taxi. Oh well!

Always time for a quick photo shoot in front of a colorful wall.

Pressies for the birthday girl.

Temporary tattoo party! The daytime version of glow sticks.

My new ink.

Not today, she wasn't!

Real & Fake. The birthday girl's ode to her besties.

21 Weeks

21 weeks feels a lot like 20 weeks except for the fact that I feel baby moving much more and I can tell he is getting bigger because his movements are packing more of a punch, so to say. Also, I can see the bottom of my belly button! So weird, but it is getting more and more shallow. At least once a week I have the thought that I can't believe I am really pregnant, it's incredible. I am so freaking excited and happy to be someone's mom.

Other things that made week 21 awesome:
Garlic Pork sandwich from Chop Bar.

The first cherries at the farmer's market.

20 Weeks

Just playing catch up, here I am at 20 weeks. The halfway mark! I had to laugh out loud when I saw this picture because of how huge the bump appears, I promise you it doesn't look like that in real life. As comfortable as those maxi dresses are, they don't do much for making you feel little. I am most definitely in the "golden" part of my pregnancy as things are pretty smooth for me. Other than feeling tired, having back pain and a couple other mild symptoms, I feel great. Also, I love being able to refer to the baby as "he" or "him". And after only knowing we are expecting a lil man for a week now, the baby shopping has begun! I must say, shopping for boys is much more of a challenge as the hunt for really cute boy clothes does not come as easy as shopping for the girls. But I am up for it and have already went a little nuts. But that's for another post. ;)

Outnumbered

We are having a BOY
And this information totally took both Jon and I by surprise! I guess we had convinced ourselves the baby was a girl even more than we thought. But as I always wanted the first born to be a boy, I am so happy!

What I Wore: Weekend Lunch

Most of the time it's easiest to just throw on some unzipped jeans with a Bella band and any old top, but when you have a lunch date you should put in a little effort. I met up with my girl Jackie this weekend for lunch and a little shopping and this what I wore.

Top from F21, Belt from Kohls, Skirt from Target and Sandals from Steve Madden.

Me and cutie pie, Jackie.

Jon's 30th Birthday party

I think I stayed pretty true to my inspiration board for Jon's party this weekend. Some things I didn't have a chance to take pictures of, was too busy having fun. And Jon had a blast too, which is all that matters. Another one for the books.

Setting the stage on the patio...

 Papel picado lining the house.

Jarritos on ice.

Fresh flowers on the table. Trader Joe's always has the best variety.

Loving my new pink sandals! Picture does not do the neon justice.

And back inside...

Colorful paper flowers lined the table.

The fake Chiclets were a huge hit with the kids.

Strawberry and key lime cupcakes made by Jon's mom. Not pictured: the chocolate ones!

And to top it all off, the Giants won! After the final score, the birthday boy poured up shots of Don Julio. Success!

Weekend Scenes

Made the most epic Cobb salad. It took a long time, but it was worth every bite!

And also baked my first quiche in several months. Ham and asparagus. It hit the spot.

Some of our best friends just turned 30 so they had a 30+30=60, 60's themed party. I was all done up Mad Men 60s style when at the last minute I switched into the more comfortable flower child outfit. Isn't that dress the best? I snatched it up at a thrift store awhile ago.

And we also celebrated this little cutie turning 1! I can hardly believe how time flies. She gets more precious every time I see her. It was a weekend of milestone birthdays.

Montbleu, ah cool

We made the short trek from Reno to Tahoe and got there just in time. The following morning, we looked out of hotel window to see the place covered in snow! Which is always a good thing because Tahoe is gorgeous covered in a blanket of white.

Freeeeeeeeeeezing.

Standard little breakfast place to escape the wind + cold. There is something really peaceful about going to a neighborhood breakfast diner on a weekday morning.

My view.

Jon's view.
Don't worry, that tub o' butter wasn't used!

Hey look, it's already lunchtime. I am so happy we ended up at Sprouts Natural Foods Cafe. It was awesome!! A must visit for anyone heading to South Lake. Sometimes on vacation you feel like you are just eating heavy meals all the time. This was much needed.

And the reason we were here in the first place.
Saw my first 311 show when I was 14 and still going strong at 28.
They killed it, as always.

Reno & Keno

I haz a blog? No kidding!? This little hiatus has been pretty great, I highly recommend it to anyone getting the slumps. And it doesn't hurt that the sun is shining longer these days and I just got back from a little trip. Jon and I went to Tahoe to see my favorite band and made a mini break out of it. We went to Reno first to visit some of his family.

The main strip area in Reno.

If you ever find yourself in Reno, Peg's Glorified Ham and Eggs is a must! I love all breakfast foods, so I can find something anywhere, but Jon is a little harder. He got the corned beef hash and eggs and said it was the best he has ever had. I have never heard him make a statement like that before, FTR. (For the record!)

I loved all the vintage lettering on the casino signs.

We headed into a casino for some Monday morning light gambling. Surprisingly, there was a decent amount of people there. I say light gambling because cigarette smoke is freaking disgusting and I can only handle so much and I'd rather spend my dough on clothes!

Keno was new to me. It was pretty fun despite losing!

And with the push of one button, that dollar was gone.
Ok, thanks Reno, it's been real, we are ready for Tahoe now!

What I Wore: PonchoTown

I bought my first poncho this weekend. I may have worn one as a kid, but I can't remember. It was so fun! Perfect for people who get hot and cold constantly, like me.

What do you think? Do you own a poncho? Mine is a cheapie one from Kohls, but I would love to own this one or this one, too.

What I Wore: Dinner in the city

Last Friday we went to SF to celebrate our friend Stephen's birthday. We went to Grub in the Mission. Mac and cheese bars are so overdone, but who cares, they are delicious! I didn't think I was going to try out the red jeans trend since I wasn't willing to shell out for the J Brand ones, so I was so happy to find these at Marshalls for 10 bones!

Loving this mild and gorgeous October weather going on.

Grub! Artichoke + Mac and Cheese with arugula and chicken.
Thank goodness for Lactaid pills.

Georgia on my mind

I have decided on a Halloween costume! You are looking at the new Charlene from Designing Women. As much as I would love to be a Sugarbaker, I have to go with the blond. Basically, I found this awesome beaded dress at the thrift store and had to have it. It was $39.95 which is pretty steep for a costume but I couldn't let it go. Well, it was meant to be because that bad boy happened to be 75% off! Score!
Something tells me I need to practice doing my hair before the big night. I'm excited to load up on the blue eyeshadow and big gold earrings.
Unrelated, but in the bottom picture, Mary Jo's dress looks a lot like one of J.Crew's bridesmaids dresses.
