Just Bones Boardwear

I was so excited to learn about Just Bones Boardwear-a stylish company featuring board shorts with a unique technology for fitting the waist just right, without compromising the length! My son is long and lean so this is a MUST for us. So often we have to move up to the next size because of his growing body, but as most other moms know, either the waist fits or the length fits, rarely both.

I put the shorts on my son (who loved the pattern!) and flipped open the discreet panel in the back to adjust them exactly to his size and then Velcroed it shut! Super simple. And next summer when he has likely grown, I will be able to adjust them once again. My son was super active on the beach and the shorts held up on the sand and surf just great. Thanks Just Bones!

We have discovered the secret to enjoying our dinners together without Jonas running the show: give him a (mostly eaten) corn cob!! A few nights ago his first corn cob kept him happily busy for over an hour while we visited with friends in the park and last night we had friends over for an impromptu BBQ in the backyard and we were able to all sit down together and have adult conversation while Jonas happily munched next to us, for over an hour! People without kids: this is a big deal. This is the perfect teether for our little food obsessed guy since he can't choke on anything and this isn't going to fill him up since he basically gets about 5 kernels off each cob.

I hope you aren't casting off your summer just because July is nearing an end. Plenty of time for summer fun and cute bathing suits. I think my next free weekend we are going to head to the beach instead of working on the nursery. We are running out of the just-the-two-of-us time. The two month countdown has begun!

Swimming in the springs

Before I left for Texas I saw how hot it was going to be, so I knew swimming to beat the heat was a necessity. Because of this, Jon and I were able to hit up in-town Barton Springs one day and 30 minutes outside of Austin, Krause Springs another day.

Barton Springs is a large man made pool in the channel of water fed by natural springs. Because of this, the water is always cold, between 68 and 72 degrees. Even for a hot day, this was a wee chilly!

 You can see to the far right in this picture is an area blocked off by a fence. This is where the current is more aggressive and it is free to "get in". There were tons of people with dogs on that side. To get into the main area is $3 each.

The place filled up! And not to generalize, but almost everyone we saw was between the ages of 20-30 and had tattoos :) I didn't swim here as much as I wanted to, because it took me some time to get the confidence to rock my bump in my bikini. Once I did, I realized what a non issue it was and was mad I wasted so much time worrying!

We went to Krause Springs another day, which is in Spicewood Texas. It is straight out of a movie, completely beautiful and off the beaten path.

The man made pool at Krause, also fed by a natural spring and naturally colder. This day it was what felt like 115 degrees, so we didn't care. I was so surprised at how green Texas was!

And the natural spring, where we hung out! Kids were jumping off the bluffs and using the rope swing, it was the perfect summer destination.

This place was $6 per person to get in, but seriously worth it. The grounds of this property were absolutely stunning--complete with a snow cone stand! They must have put gravel in the bottom of the springs too because it wasn't slimy when we were walking around. We met so many nice people here and didn't want to leave.

I'm not quite sure who let the pregnant chick pick a trip to Austin in late June...please pray for us. 

 Meanwhile, today I was in San Francisco using my windshield wipers on those misty hills. Sigh.

Weekend Scenes: Campin'

This forth of July weekend Jon and I went camping with a bunch of friends to Manchester State Beach. Best group campsite ever! There was nobody around us, we could be as loud and rowdy as we wanted and we were perfectly nestled from the wind and less than 5 minutes from the beach. Here are some of my snaps.

Hot Summer Nights: Zucchini Cakes

During the summer months whenever I see a recipe for zucchini anything, I bookmark it, dog ear it or tear it out. We have planted it again this year in our garden and it always does so well. I have made zucchini bread, stuffed boats, plain on the grill and shredded. This time I tried out little zucchini cakes. How many times will I have said zucchini before this post is over?

Once I sliced into that bell pepper it puffed out some air and 

it was completely rotten on the inside!!! Disgust. 

So I used a red onion in its place.
