Input Needed

Let me guide you through a scenario. Please picture yourself in this scenario as best you can.

Arrive at a very nice spa in wine country for your complimentary mud bath.
Check in, go to locker room.
Undress* and wrap yourself in a sheet.
Wait for your attendant.
Attendant brings you to shower to rinse off.
You shower. *
Attendant brings you to mud bath.*
And helps you in. *
Attendant covers you with volcanic mud.
Relax for 10 minutes.
Attendant removes mud from you. *
Then you are walked back to the shower.*
Then you shower and get the mud out of all nooks and crannies. *
You are then walked to a mineral bath.*
Soak.
After the mineral bath you are then walked to a steam room. *
Steam it up. *
Then you are walked to a private room. *
Where you are wrapped in a blanket and cucumbers and placed on your eyes.
Nap.

Thoughts? How does this all sound? Pretty wonderful. What if I say that anywhere the asterick is means you are butt naked with several other women? Walking from here to there, in an open shower, cleaning mud out of your bits, relaxing, soaking, etc. Does this change your opinion? What if this otherwise $85 service is free? Also, where the heck do I put my camera to document this!? Part of me is nervous and the other part is saying "shut up you lil prude, they are just strangers!".

Please weigh in and let's hope my Dad doesn't read this post(!)

I totally understand being nervous in that scenario but as long as a)you don't know anyone there and b)they're naked too... I think you're good. :)

Haha Do it! You will love it and will be so relaxed you won't even be looking at bits of those other ladies. :)

I would be nervous too! Maybe just take a nice long visit to the winery first :)

i'm definitely too much of a prude.

OMG do it! Who cares, you aren't going to have any parts they don't have! You will probably be the youngest and most fit one there anyway. Plus, volcanic ash does AMAZING things to your skin. :)

Oh lordy. Well my body after two kids is so not cute so I would never do that at this point in my life. But five-six years ago I probably would be okay with it. Definitely with a glass or two of wine in me beforehand. Just don't drink too much because it's never a good idea to be drunk AND naked in public.

I say go for it. Have a few glasses of wine first, then have fun. Maybe start a mud fight!

hahaha it will be fine. i was really uneasy/awkward about a similar situation when i visited a hot springs village resort in japan: all public baths, all public showers...i almost backed out of the experience, before i finally decided that i would try it out just ONCE. but once i got into the swing of dropping my robes...it felt surprisingly normal and not a big deal. i mean everyone else is doing the same thing, and the natural springs felt wonderful...and so, i found myself going back again and again and again...

I did the mud bath in Calistoga once. And it was exactly how you described.

Sitting in the mud was weird. And yes, it does get into all of your nooks and crannies.

I enjoyed the steam room. BUT I didn't especially like the walking around butt naked part. I tried to act all cool with it. But still... it was WEIRD!

Would I do it again. NO. Was I glad I did it once. YES.

Was I any help?

I think you have to do it. It can't be too painfully awkward and you'll have a funny story to share afterwards.

Plus, I would kill a man to stay in one of those cottages. i was supposed to stay there for a girls weekend last summer but it was booked. Can't wait to hear how it goes!
