{Some early blooms in the backyard}
I am so excited to plant our garden this weekend. We have been soaked in rain the last couple weeks, which is why we are getting a late start. The chance of frost is over and now is the time to plant. Here are our plans:
Old favorites
Tomatoes-they make up the bulk of the garden. We like to get about 4-6 different varieties including some cherries, yellow ones, classic Brandywines and some heirlooms.
Herbs-We still have our rosemary, sage and mint from years past but its time to replant the basil and cilantro. I actually never even cooked with the sage last year, my bad.
Radishes and carrots-grow very well from seed, can work them in throughout the season. Great additions to summer salads.
First time planting
Butternut Squash-yum yum yum
Pumpkins-would love to cover my porch with pumpkins all fall but they are sort of expensive, planting my own should help.
Garlic-why not just stick a head in the ground and see what happens?
Not trying again
Cauliflower-winter crop and they take up too much room
Celery-just wasn't impressed and its so cheap at the store, why bother? Although I will miss having all that access to the leaves for my bloody marys.
Peppers-it just doesn't get hot enough here for them to grow well, and we don't eat them when they are ripe!
What am I missing? What are you planting this year? Whether in a garden or a patio potted garden, I'm interested! I am truly at my happiest in my overgrown garden. Here's to warm spring days and hot summer nights in the near future!

Watch out for your pumpkins. They can overgrow things really fast! But it's so fun to have them cause it's very rewarding in the end.
Cucumbers are also really easy to grow if you like those.
I'm so jealous you have a garden. Our new house is a rental so we're not putting any money into a garden here. But your flowers look amazing and I can wait to hear how all your veggies do!
soooooooo pretty
I wish I had a yard! I might try and do some potted herbs. Looks like you have an awesome lineup. Can't wait to see how it all turns out this year!
Those flowers are gorgeous! And love that you're trying garlic. Let us know how it goes~
I've always wanted to start a garden! You'll have to share some tips ;) Thanks for stopping by my blog, I appreciate your sweet comment! Also, looked through your wedding photos...gorgeous!

this is totally awesome!!! i want a garden! can't wait to hear about how all the planting and growing unfolds. sounds delicious.
I really thought I was gonna get around to putting in a big garden this year. If I wanted to make it happen, I still could. But, oh, the laziness. I'll be lucky to get tomatoes in the ground. Need to get some basil planted, no matter what.
If there is one thing that could tempt me to leave New York City it would be a garden. I can't even tell you how jealous I am of your plans.
I can't wait to get out in the garden again and spiff it up. We had a great veggie garden 2 years ago-which was our first year trying, but then last year it was a total dud. We were a little discouraged. I'm thinking of turning our raised planter into a patio and home for our fire pit. Still not sure what to do yet..
Green onion, chives and lettuce!
Our lettuce is going great as are the chives.
I'm gardening for the first time ever at our house! I'm totally redoing the front flower bed and planting some herbs and tomatos in the raised beds in our backyard. I've been a busy bee getting the soil ready! As a novice gardener I'm eager to see how it goes...
I'm jealous of that California weather, things just grow so well out there! Looking forward to seeing how things shape up, hope you'll share!
